- On March 9 at 10 a.m., children ages 3-5 and their caregivers may enjoy story-telling, crafts, songs and outdoor exploration during the Pre-K Tuesday program at the Manassas Museum. Advance reservations are strongly encouraged. Register at www.manassasmuseum.org or by calling (703) 368-1873.
- From March 13 to April 12, the Manassas Museum hosts Impressions, a new exhibit by Osbourn High School art students. Impressions features the paintings, mixed media works, sculpture and drawings. The exhibit offers students the opportunity to be guest curators, as they choose works to be displayed, create frames or mounts, and write descriptive labels for their works. Osbourn students and their families are admitted free for the Impressions exhibit.
- On March 14 from 10 a.m. to noon, students ages 9 to 14 can participate in “Understanding History,” a program to help students learn more about Virginia history. This session covers events in the years 1901 to 2014. Register at www.manassasmuseum.org or by calling (703) 368-1873.
- On March 22 at 2 p.m., come to the Manassas Museum for a free book talk: “Stuart’s Finest Hour: The Ride Around McClellan, June 1862,” with author John J. Fox. His book uses eyewitness accounts to explore how this 29-year-old former U.S. Army lieutenant and his men sliced deep behind Union lines to gather information for Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. It began in the summer of 1862, when Union Gen. George McClellan’s huge Union Army stood poised to decimate the Confederate capital of Richmond. The city faced chaos as thousands of civilians fled. Lee, the Confederate Army commander, wanted to launch his own attack, but he needed to know what stood on McClellan’s right flank.
- On March 28 from 9 to 11 a.m., take a Bicycle Tour with the Manassas Museum. The tours, on the fourth Saturday of the month from March to May and August through October, focus on often overlooked historic areas around Manassas. The tour begins at the museum, and advance tickets are recommended. Visit manassasmuseum.org or call (703) 257-8453 for tickets, and bring your own bike.
- On March 29 at 2 p.m., join Author Mike Priest as he gives his free book talk: “Stand to It and Give Them Hell.” Much has been written about the critical Civil War Battle of Gettysburg from the perspective of military historians. Mike Priest chronicles the fighting from the perspective of the soldiers who fought the battle.
The Manassas Museum is at 9101 Prince William St., just south of Old Town. The museum’s phone number is (703) 368-1873.
