Police Arrest Driver In Manassas Hit-And-Run
The driver is accused of striking a pedestrian as he laid in a Manassas road after being struck by another vehicle, police said.

MANASSAS, VA — The Prince William County Police Department on Monday charged a driver of a Nissan Xterra, one of two vehicles allegedly involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred in the area of Sudley Road and Balls Ford Road in Manassas on May 6. The driver of the Xterra is accused of striking a pedestrian as he laid in the roadway after initially being struck by a vehicle described as a newer model Toyota Corolla.
Walner Alberto Pichinte Echeverria, 35, of Frederick, Maryland, was charged with felony hit-and-run. His court date is scheduled for Sept. 15. He is being in jail without bond.
Pichinte Echeverria was identified from information obtained from a service station. The Prince William County police said he was traveling to Manassas for work on the morning of the crash.

Upon reviewing surveillance footage, police investigators learned that the pedestrian, identified as Alberto Anthony Marino, 62, of Bristow, was initially struck by a newer model silver Toyota Corolla before the vehicle continued straight on Sudley Road.
Moments after the victim was initially hit, a second vehicle allegedly driven by Pichinte Echeverriaallegedly struck the victim as he laid in the roadway. Pichinte Echeverria then pulled into a nearby service station where he was seen pumping gas before driving away from the scene a short time later, the police said.

At 5 a.m. May 6, investigators with the Crash Investigation Unit of the Prince William County police responded to the area to investigate the pedestrian crash. Marino was transported to an area hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.
Investigators are still seeking the identity of the driver in the new model silver Toyota Corolla that initially struck the victim. The Corolla is likely to have damage to the passenger side of the front bumper and missing the passenger side mirror.
