Snow Forecast Added to Weather Advisory

New weather alert from the National Weather Service.

If you thought it would just be dangerously windy and bitterly cold, we’re not getting away that easy. A layer of snow has joined the forecast.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until midnight Saturday night for snow. The advisory includes Prince William County, Manassas, Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, Stafford, Loudoun County, Washington, Manassas, Fairfax, Ashburn, Leesburg, Falls Church.

A coating to 1 inch is expected, according to the NWS, with up to 2 inches possible in some areas. The temperatures will quickly drop below freezing shortly after the snow starts, with wind chills reaching as low as 15 below.

“Roads will become snow covered and slippery as temperatures rapidly fall late this afternoon and evening,” according to the NWS statement. “Heavy bursts of snow will reduce visibilities below one-half mile, making for dangerous travel conditions.”

After the snow ends, the cold air on the snow and slush will mean frozen, icy conditions on the roadways.
