Salt Says:

With all the shops around it, I had never really noticed America's Bar and Grill but I'm glad I finally did.

Before I even walked in the door I noticed a group of regulars outside talking with a waitress who was on break. I got the feeling that it was a close-knit neighborhood bar.

When I walked in, I was a little confused; I didn't want to sit at the bar and I didn't want to stand by the door, waiting for a non-existent hostess.

The bartender saw that, gave me a smile and told me I could sit anywhere I like. Even though there was a crowd at the bar, I was the only one sitting at a table which was awkward because everyone, including the bartender and waitress, wouldn't stop staring at me.

The waitress and bartender were nice and seemed to be really in touch with their regulars.

In fact while I was there, the waitress noticed a few regulars making their way in and had their drinks waiting for them when they made it through the door.

The menu is heavily inspired by Southwestern cuisine, but there's definitely a lot of standard bar room foods.  I decided to order a Ceasar salad with grilled chicken. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and the salad was great. My only complaint about the food was that the croutons were a little soggy. The biggest problem I had with this restaurant— aside from the staring—was the wait. It took about 20 minutes for my food to come out.

I would definitely visit this place again, only next time I'll bring a couple of friends with me.

Pepper Says:

Passing by America’s, it’s hard to know what really to expect when you go inside.  But what I didn’t expect to see is a packed bar on a Tuesday night. I didn’t want to sit at a table, but some regulars at the bar quickly shifted over to give me a seat. The bartender immediately asked what I would like to drink but a menu, however, was not so easy to obtain. A few minutes after I asked for one, I asked again and got one step closer to making my order.

What is overwhelmingly apparent after being in there for only a few minutes is how friendly everyone is, and how everyone seemed to know one another.

Once again, I’m the stranger in town, but with the help of one of the locals, I decided on an order: Naked wings with a side of honey barbecue sauce and some home-style pupusas. The order took a surprisingly long time for what it was, but thankfully, I wasn’t very hungry when I arrived.

The wings were OK. They were very skinny and rather dry but the barbecue sauce was great. For the price, I really can’t complain. The home-style pupusas were cheese only, as I had requested, but were mediocre. The loroco (shredded cabbage) was a little strange looking and different then most I had seen, but complimented the pupusas very well.

In addition to some down-right-dirty bar food, they have some great happy hour specials and, as I previously mentioned, both a friendly staff and a friendly crowd. While I don’t see myself becoming a regular, I think I would most definitely go there and have a drink with some friends. Maybe I'll check out the fajitas the regulars spoke highly of.
