Manassas Park Community Matters Blog Post - Spring into Action – By Sue Jurjevic

I think Spring has finally arrived and is hopefully here to stay. We have had quite the winter and we are definitely ready for fun in the sun and enjoying the great outdoors. It is important to have some guidelines as the weather warms up; however we don’t want to zap all the fun out of the things we do. As adults we understand that we have to set boundaries to keep our children safe.

We all enjoy as the weather warms up to switch over from winter boots and added layers to flip flops and sandals. Just the thought of slipping on some shoes and heading out definitely saves time and effort. It is important to remember that as your children plan for school that they are also going to have play time and what better way to keep them safe is proper shoes. It is important to have them ready for running and playing.

Flip Flops, Crocs and Sandals-

  • Do not stay on feet well
  • Get stuck on equipment do to not being a tight fit
  • Can easily get sticks, and things stuck in them while playing
  • Constantly having to clean mulch out of them while on the playground
  • Do not work well on the gym floor due

Please take the time to review these concerns with your child to assure that they have an understanding of the rules and policies; and please be sure your child wears appropriate shoes for play.

We are also reminded of allergies and the differences between allergies and a cold. Remind your child’s teacher if your child has seasonal allergies and any and all medications your child may be taking for allergies. Please review to make sure all medications have not yet expired.

Allergies vs. a Cold-

  • Have the seasons changed?
  • Did the symptoms come on suddenly?
  • Does your child have itchy and watery eyes?
  • Is there an absence of fever and no yellow/greenish nasal discharge?

Our illness policy-

  • Sore or discharging eyes, ears, or nose (undiagnosed)
  • Undiagnosed rash

We encourage parents to please adhere to our policy to keep other children and staff safe and healthy.

We do encourage as much outside time as possible, therefore we want everyone to be safe and have fun. Thank you for reading- be safe and enjoy some fun in the Sun!
