WASHINGTON, DC — The Bloomberg Billionaire Index tracks the world’s 500 richest people on an almost continuous basis, with the figures getting updated after the close of every trading day at the New York Stock Exchange.

Jeff Bezos, the founder and CEO of Amazon, maintains his spot as the richest person in the world. Overall, 176 of the 500 richest individuals are American, and United States citizens also make up seven of the top 10 richest people globally.

In Virginia, three people are among the 500 richest people in the world; no Washington, D.C., residents made the cut, although Bezos does own a home in D.C. Two of the Virginia residents are members of the Mars family that owns the country's biggest candy company; three other Mars family members who live in other states are also on the list.
