Democrat Kathleen Murphy to Run in Special Election for House of Delegates 34th District Seat
Murphy barely lost race last year against Barbara Comstock; she'll face the winner of Saturday's GOP "firehouse primary."

Residents in Virginia’s 34th House of Delegates District will get another chance to vote for Democrat Kathleen Murphy, in January.
The McLean resident will be on the ballot again, in a special election to try to win the House of Delegates District seat she barely lost last year to Republican Barbara Comstock. The seat is open now, after Comstock’s election last week to represent Virginia’s 10th congressional District.
Murphy is currently the only Democrat running in the special election race; if she is still the only one running by Saturday, a planned “unassembled caucus” will be canceled. If another Democrat joins the fray, it will go on, it will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at Great Falls Elementary School. She took 49.21 percent of the vote against Comstock in 2013.

Murphy will run against one of two Republicans in the special election: Allen Johnson and Craig Parisot have met the filing requirements to seek the Republican nomination at a canvass or “firehouse primary” Saturday. All registered voters who reside in the 34th House District may participate in the party canvass on Saturday.
Parisot is a former Air Force captain; Johnson is a former diplomat and legislative staff member who runs his own business.
