Pedestrian Killed At Tysons Intersection: Police
Police believe the pedestrian was crossing Chain Bridge Road without the right of way.
TYSONS, VA — A fatal pedestrian crash was reported late Sunday in Tysons, according to Fairfax County Police. This was the eighth pedestrian fatality in Fairfax County this year.
The crash happened around 11:05 p.m. at Chain Bridge Road and International Drive, an intersection with crosswalks, traffic signals and pedestrian signals. Detectives believe the pedestrian was crossing Chain Bridge Road at the intersection without the right of way when a 2015 Toyota Corolla heading traveling north on Chain Bridge Road through a green light struck him.
Despite lifesaving measures, the pedestrian died of his injuries. He was identified as Jose Matias Monjaras, 61, of Falls Church.

The driver remained on the scene. Police do not believe speed or alcohol factored into the crash. Results of the investigation will be presented to the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney for review.
