Lidl To Celebrate McLean Grocery Store's Grand Opening On June 1

MCLEAN, VA — Lidl will celebrate the grand opening of a new grocery store in McLean on Wednesday, June 1, with local leaders participating in a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The new McLean store will be Lidl’s 34th store in Virginia. Lidl, owned by Arlington-based Lidl US, invested $10 million in the McLean site.

“McLean residents have been looking forward to the opening of the Lidl grocery store for some time because of its reputation for high-quality products at discount prices,” Fairfax County Supervisor John Foust, who represents McLean, said in a statement Friday. “Congratulations to Lidl on the opening and welcome to the wonderful community of McLean.”

Local leaders will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:40 a.m. on June 1. The store is located at 1330 Chain Bridge Road.

At the grand opening celebration, customers will be able to take advantage of get-them-while-you-can grand opening special offers at the new store.

The first 100 customers in line before the ribbon cutting will be presented with a special gift card ranging from $5 to $100 each. Shoppers can enter to win a $500 Lidl gift card, sample Lidl’s award-winning assortment and take advantage of special giveaways.

The store will operate daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Lidl said the new store is creating more than 45 jobs. Starting pay for all employees will be $16 per hour, which includes comprehensive benefits. Lidl offers healthcare for all full- and part-time employees, regardless of hours worked per week, the company said.

"Lidl has a long commitment to Virginia, having located its US Headquarters here in the Commonwealth," Virginia Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry Matthew Lohr said. “We greatly appreciate all they do for the communities they serve."

Lidl will partner with the SHARE Food Pantry of McLean to provide food to people in need in the community. Throughout the entire grand opening weekend — from Wednesday, June 1 to Sunday, June 5 — Lidl will donate $1 to the food bank for every new myLidl member who signs up and sets the new Lidl store as their home store.
