MCLEAN, VA — In response to the new coronavirus outbreak, the McLean Community Center will be closed through Sunday, April 12. Absentee voting for the McLean Community Center board election started Tuesday and will continue.

In addition to MCC, The Alden Theatre, the Old Firehouse Center and the McLean Project for the Arts are closed through April 12. All classes, activities, performances and scheduled facility rentals are canceled, as well as the March 25 MCC Governing Board meeting and public hearing.

MCC's closure will run longer than Fairfax County's community, neighborhood and teen centers, which are closed until March 29. MCC's executive director George Sachs explained the decision in a message to members. "We are staying closed an additional two weeks as it is our policy to not hold classes when Fairfax County Public Schools are closed, and because of the CDC guidance, which recommends everyone stay away from gatherings of 10 or more people," reads the message.

Please plan to mail your ballot in; however, if the center reopens you may place it in the ballot box at the center or at the Old Firehouse, 1440 Chain Bridge Rd. Completed absentee voting affidavits and ballots must be received at MCC by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13.

MCC staff members are working through the closure and are available by email.
