MCLEAN, VA — The McLean Community Center is holding a public hearing on Wednesday, July 6 to get feedback on its draft five-year strategic plan that will guide the center’s programming and priorities.

MCC has been developing the strategic plan based on public feedback gathered from district residents over the last several months. The center hired AMS Planning & Research last fall to help craft the plan.

Residents of Dranesville Small District 1A are invited to express their ideas about the future programming and strategic priorities of the center at the public hearing at 6:30 p.m. on July 6.

“In an environment where the COVID-19 pandemic, changing cultural environment and new County policies created pressure to grow and change, the Governing Board, Executive Director and staff were eager to innovate and provide new programming to serve the community,” states the executive summary of the draft McLean Community Center Strategic Plan, released this month.

In a community survey, "the Center’s lack of visibility was apparent," according to the draft strategic plan. Barely half of respondents strongly agreed or agreed that the McLean Community Center “is very visible in the community."

The plan's proposed objectives include expanding MCC's community footprint and becoming more embedded within the community.

Among the strategies for meeting these objectives would be to use social media and digital resources to broaden, deepen and diversify its reach, and make the MCC and the Old Firehouse Teen Center easier to find.

MCC is hoping the strategic plan will help the center stay relevant in the community leading up to its 50th anniversary in 2025 and beyond.
