McLean High School Marching Band Performs at Prestigious Competition

Bands of America Regional Championship took place Saturday in Monroeville, Pa.

The McLean High School Marching Band performed at the prestigious Bands of America Regional Championship in Monroeville, Pa. Saturday, Sept. 20.

Their competitive show this year is titled “Pure Imagination” and is an exciting medley of childhood fantasy favorites such as “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” “Pure Imagination,” “Flight of the Bumblebee” and Danny Elfman’s music from Edward Scissorhands.

In the preliminary round, the band earned second place in Class AAAA and sixth place overall. The top 10 bands regardless of class were then announced to advance into the evening final round and McLean was chosen to continue along with two other FCPS bands – James Madison High School and Fairfax High School.

In the finals competition, McLean earned eighth place with a score of 64.40, beating out local rival Fairfax High School. James Madison High School came in fourth place with 72.40.

This Bands of America Regional Championship was McLean’s first competition for the season. The McLean High School Marching Band will compete in three more events: the local Oakton Classic at Oakton High School on Sept. 27, a U.S. Bands Northern Virginia competition in Winchester, Va. on Oct. 11 and another BOA Regional Championship at the University of Delaware on Oct. 25.

The McLean High School Marching Band can be seen performing at the next home football games on Friday, as well as on Oct. 2 and at homecoming, Oct. 17.
