Pedestrian Killed In McLean Crash: Police

A car struck the pedestrian when he was crossing Dolley Madison Boulevard, police say.

MCLEAN, VA—A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a car Tuesday night, according to police.

Around 9:55 p.m., the pedestrian was trying to cross the street at Dolley Madison Boulevard and Madison McLean Drive when a 2002 BMW hit him. The car had been heading west in the right lane of Dolley Madison Boulevard when the crash happened at the intersection.

The victim was identified as Philip John Dietz, 75, of McLean.

Detectives are looking into whether Dietz used the crosswalk when the pedestrian signal was on. Police do not believe speed or alcohol factored into the crash.

The driver remained on scene to cooperate with the investigation and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

When the investigation concludes, the Office of the Commonwealth Attorney will determine if the driver will face charges.
