Resident Injured In McLean Kitchen Fire

A resident got minor burns while trying to put out a fire involving cooking oil.

MCLEAN, VA — A resident was injured when a kitchen fire started in a McLean home on Friday, Oct. 18, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

The fire broke out at a single-family home in the 1700 block of Maxwell Court. The resident was cooking on the stove when oil ignited. Upon trying to put out the fire, the resident suffered minor burns and was taken to the hospital.

Firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire. No firefighters were injured.

Fire investigators identified the cause of the fire as the auto-ignition of cooking oil spreading to nearby combustibles. The resident was displaced but did not need Red Cross assistance. Damages were estimated to be $123,750.
