Is There A Shortage of Christmas Trees?
Christmas Trees, Trinity, Boy Scouts, Trinity UMC, youth, Mclean, shortage, sale

Have you heard about the shortage of Christmas trees?
It's true. Around early 2000's, there was an oversupply of trees which drove down prices. That in turn forced many suppliers to go out of business especially during the Great Recession. According to some estimates the planting of Fraser Firs dropped from 5.6 million in 2010 to 3.7 million in 2015. Trees take about 7 to 8 years of growth in order for them to be harvested. Therefore, this year many suppliers report selling out, and that translated into higher prices on the retail end.
At Trinity we have been holding prices steady for the last several years. The sale funds Trinity Scouts and Trinity Youth Group programs and outreach projects. (For instance, the proceeds helped send Trinity youth and parents to Honduras for a week to work with children in an orphanage.) These two groups depend on the generosity of McLean residents. At the same time, we see this sale as a way to meet needs in our community. We care for our community and are thankful to all our loyal customers.
