Inaugural Post - A Business Owner and Long Time Resident

Long-time resident and, now, virtual business owner who moves blindspots to visionspots so businesses and leaders can stay healthy and ensure that true progress is being made

Hello...my name is Kevin Lewis. I am a long time resident of Northern Virginia. My background includes service as an Army officer, a career in the information technology world, and a second career in the non-profit research community. My passion in life is to help people determine their life purpose. Once someone knows this, time and energy can be properly directed. Most often, finding out one's purpose is hindered by blindspots. Given this condition, I made the decision a few years back to step out and start a management consulting and coaching practice that would bring a principled approach to this objective - to help executives and business owners understand what their blindspots are and to turn those blindspots into visionspots. Yes...the latter term is one that I made up. And...it is the essence of what we do.

Simply put: a blindspot is a place where something can elude your vision. If you spot that “something” in time, you can avoid conflict and make needed changes. But, how can you find out what that “something” is if you don’t know it is even there…or what to look for? One cannot move ahead in accomplishing a goal or mission effectively without being able to see what you cannot see. Sounds contradictory? I know. That is why organizations are seeking help more and more to engage outside expertise in the development of their staff, their senior leaders, and their emerging leadership. This is important if any organization intends to remain healthy. Once a blindspot is identified, with the help of a trusted advisor, this spot can be turned into a place where vision can be applied and progress shored up. Sounds simple? Yes…it is…but only if the leadership is open to embracing this kind of approach to change.

So where is your organization? Who is helping it and its leadership in identifying blindspots? Could one or more be getting in the way of true progress?  Are you open to looking at this more closely?
