We recognize that brain health and physical health partner to create personal opportunity. Under and over–activity or miscommunication among the millions of neural networks in The Brain, can handicap the individual and also his or her potential to contribute fully within the community. Invisible harm can be caused by stress, trauma, disease, toxins and injury. Teaching the best brain-ways is a collaborative responsibility to ensure lifetime success for our young. Nexus supports those counselors, parents, teachers and other community members who counsel and teach the best brain management strategies to promote resilience, productivity, positive thinking and skills to counter-act frustration or depression.
Prevention and Intervention can be interchangeable. Scientists can see spectrographically actual, physical brain changes as the result of counseling and teaching - with or without medication. (NIMH Highlights of Research Progress, Selected Advances in NIMH Science During 1999, New Brain Cells Formed in Response to Learning, P.64.) So the good news is ...we can learn to succeed in a stressful world and recovery is possible.
