Cars Struck By Bullets At Shopping Center In Mount Vernon

Police responding to a report of a shooting found parked cars had been hit. Plus, other police incidents in a busy weekend in Mount Vernon.

MOUNT VERNON, VA—Several cars were reportedly struck by bullets at a shopping center in Mount Vernon Saturday.

Fairfax County Police received a report of a shooting around 2:51 a.m. in the parking lot of Club One, a night club at Woodlawn Shopping Center. There were no reports of injuries, but officers determined parked cars had been hit. Police found several shell casings in the parking lot.

Detectives are following up on this case.

Here are other notable incidents in Mount Vernon reported over the weekend.

UNLAWFUL ENTRY / DESTRUCTION: 3800 block of Needles Pl, between 9/22/18 and 9/23/18. The homeowner returned home from work and discovered the balcony sliding glass door smashed and it appeared someone had made entry into their house. At the time of the report, no items were found missing.

TRESPASSING / DESTRUCTION: 3800 block of Segundo Pl, between 9/21/18 and 9/23/18. Officer’s responded for an open-door investigation. The homeowner inspected one of his investment properties and noticed the door was unlocked and open. Officer’s checked the residence and determined the apartment had been vandalized.

ASSAULT ON LAW ENFORCEMENT / DESTRUCTION: 8200 block of Russell Rd, 9/21/18 4:29 p.m. Officers noticed 30-year-old Nehemiah Coleman, of Alexandria, walking and verified he had an outstanding warrant. The officers also noticed he was carrying a pocket knife. Officers told Coleman he was under arrest and attempted to place him in handcuffs when he actively resisted. Officers eventually placed him in handcuffs and brought him to a police cruiser at which time Coleman kicked one of the officers in the groin. Coleman also kicked the cruiser causing approximately $1000 in damage. He was brought to the detention center and charged with assault on law enforcement, obstruction by threat, destruction of property, and attempt to flee from law enforcement.

ASSAULT ON LAW ENFORCEMENT: 8300 block of Richmond Hwy, 9/22/18, 8:27 p.m. Officers found 39-year-old Christopher Finley, of Alexandria, staggering and waving his arms. As officers approached to investigate, Finley lunged at one of the officers pushing the officer in the chest and attempted to punch the officer several times. Officers used an electronic control weapon to gain control of Finley who was transported to the detention center for assault on law enforcement, drunk in public, and was found to have an outstanding warrant for larceny.
