George Washington’s home, Mount Vernon, invites high school student junior and senior leaders from the Washington, DC, area to participate in The George Washington Student Leadership Program at the first president’s home on Wednesday, February 29. Patrick Byrne, Walt Whitman High School alumnus and founder-CEO of Overstock.com, will discuss business innovation and leadership in the 21st century with the students. Four student leaders per high school may be nominated to participate in this FREE program, which will take place from 4:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
The program’s theme is the leadership, character, and contributions of our nation's first president. The student leaders will receive a special presentation from historian Peter Henriques, private tour of the mansion, history bee, and dinner at the Mount Vernon food pavilion. Each participating student will receive a special Certificate of Recognition commemorating participation in the event.
Teacher sponsors who contact Mount Vernon to sign up their school’s student leaders and accompany them to the event will receive a $100 stipend. For reservations email your legal name, phone number, mailing address, school name, and names of students with "Student Leadership Program" in the subject line to education@mountvernon.org. RSVP required.
