YoKid Yoga Challenge

YoKid, a local area non-profit dedicated to providing accessible yoga classes for children and teens in Alexandria and throughout the metro DC area, is teaming up with the Partnership for a Healthier Alexandria to present the third annual YoKid Yoga Challenge on Sunday, March 4, from 2-4pm at Cora Kelly Recreation Center in Alexandria, VA, located at 25 West Reed Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22305. The challenge is open to kids of all ages, adults, and families. No yoga experience is required.

This year’s YoKid challenge will kick-off with a fun vision and goal-setting exercise, followed by a series of 108 sun salutation yoga sequences performed in four sets of 27, with rest periods in-between. Participants are welcome to do as many (or as few) sun salutations as they wish, and are invited to enjoy light and nutritious snacks afterward, while learning how healthy eating can be fun.

The first 50 kids to pre-register for the YoKid Challenge by Thursday, March 1 will receive a FREE Eco-Friendly YOGA MAT on the day of the event! Suggested donation for the YoKid Challenge: $20 for adults; $5 for kids ages 5-17, or the whole family can participate for a $20 donation. Children and staff of the YoKid program participate for free. Register online at www.yokid.org. All donations are tax-deductible, and directly support YoKid’s efforts to bring the benefits of yoga to under-served and at-risk youth.

YoKid is a non-profit organization that provides instruction in yoga for under-served and at-risk youth.  Our hope is that through this instruction, kids will be able to foster greater self-awareness and, in turn, realize their full potential physically, academically, socially, and emotionally.
