Flags for Heroes

Alexandria Rotary Club Honors Citizens

Last Saturday, June 30, President Mike Wicks of the Alexandria Rotary opened the exhibit of Flags for Heroes on the Bellefonte Street side of Simpson Park. This project has been in the works for 3-4 years and finally became a reality thanks to Sharon Meisel and Sir Stewart Matthews and other members of the Alexandria Rotary Club, Mayor Allison Silverberg and members of the Alexandria City Government.

The Flags for Heroes project is meant to celebrate our heritage, and more importantly, to recognize those individuals who have made a difference; teachers, mentors, parents, first responders and members of the military service who continue to defend our rights as citizens. We do not take their service for granted.

The Rotary Club was honored to have Councilman Willie F. Bailey, Sr. who said a few words in support to the Rotary project. Mayor Silverberg sent a letter to be read, and Ronnie Chantker the Rotary International District 7610 Governor said a few words. Art Chantker, the husband and “consort” of the District Governor was instrumental in establishing the Flags For Heroes as the focus project for District 7610 for the 2017-2018 Rotary year.
