Friends of Sherwood Library Bookstore expands hours

The Friends of Sherwood Library Bookstore announces newly expanded winter hours to include every Saturday from 1 – 4 PM. The bookstore will be open as usual on Wednesdays from 1-4 PM and Sundays from 1-3 PM, as well as the usual “first Saturday” hours of 10 AM – 4 PM. Sherwood Regional Library is located at 2501 Sherwood Hall Lane, Alexandria, 22306.

The Fairfax Library system is closed for the Thanksgiving holiday this Thursday and Friday.

As always our special price table contains quality books at very reasonable prices. This week it includes individual books large and small on precious jewels and gems, e.g. diamonds, opals, emeralds, etc., with information on their origins and mining, and advice on purchasing gems and jewels.

Also on both the special price table and on the regular shelves you’ll find collections of beautifully illustrated catalogs and texts on Native American pottery and jewelry of the southwest, past and present (particularly Navajo, Hopi, Zuni).

Remember to visit the special price room, where many previous specials have been “red lined” to half price.

The second floor lobby has several exciting additions. Thanks to a generous donation, we are able to offer paperback romance novels at 10 cents each;” our CD collection has been expanded by several hundred offerings, available on a separate cart; there are 2 shelves of sailing-related books on the shelves opposite the coffee table books section; and we have full boxes of holiday books especially for children, as well as holiday cookbooks, CDs and DVDs. Many of the books are old favorites in new editions, suitable for gifts.

All these items may be purchased whenever the library is open. Use the payment kiosk near the circulation desk if a volunteer is not available.

In the children’s room you’ll find gift-quality softcover newly printed editions of the “Harry Potter” series. Nancy Drew and the Hardy boys are available as new books or classic versions. Shel Silverstein, Mother Goose, and Aesop are all represented in beautiful volumes, and we have a lovely edition of the Harper Collins “Treasury of Picture Book Classics.”

Good news: the library’s elevator to the second floor is now working! Thank you for your patience during the past months.

Our bookstore and support of the library depend on donations by members of the community. The bookstore always appreciates donations in all categories, both fiction and nonfiction. PLEASE ensure that they are in clean, resalable condition. We cannot accept magazines or encyclopedias. Receipts are available for tax purposes.

Items from the ongoing book sale in the first floor hallway and in the second floor open lobby are available for purchase whenever the library is open.
