The bookstore will be open for its monthly “first Saturday” sale on April 6 from 10 AM to 4 PM, as well as regular hours on Wednesday, 1-4 PM, and Sunday, 1-3 PM. Items from the ongoing booksale in the first floor hallway and the second floor open lobby are available for purchase whenever the library is open. The library is located at 2501 Sherwood Hall Lane, Alexandria, 22306.

For the Saturday sale the bookstore will feature a donation of beautiful art books, displayed on a separate table in the upstairs lobby. Many of these are recent exhibition catalogues, large size, in excellent condition, and nicely illustrated. Most are specially priced.

Thanks to more recent donations, the bookstore features numerous specials this week. For example: in the history section we have a separate cart with over 50 individual books on the Civil War, as well as a 30 volume complete set of Time-Life books on the Civil War, and a complete 13 volume Civil War set from the “Collectors Library.”

Ready for more history? Additional donations include the 10 volume set “Gateway to Great Books,” a 10 volume set from the Encyclopedia Britannica’s “Great Ideas Program,” and the 54 volume set “Great Books of the Western World,” as well as a fascinating collection of original newspapers from the 1960’s and early ‘70’s.

For the “plan ahead” crowd, we will offer 3 boxes full of holiday craft ideas, cookbooks, and children’s books. And in the same vein, the bookstore has a boxful of brand new Hallmark greeting cards for various occasions.

Elsewhere in the bookstore, explore our selection of VHS tapes including 5 seasons plus highlights of “Upstairs/Downstairs,” and our foreign language corner’s excellent collection of Korean books.

Have you discovered the “quarter corner” in the upstairs open lobby? This corner near the tech lab has boxes of children’s and young adult books for 25 cents each, and remember, every child and teen gets one of these books free each time they visit the library.

Did you know our inventory is donated by members of the community? Our bookstore and support of the library depend on your generosity. The bookstore always appreciates donations in all categories, both fiction and nonfiction, in resalable condition. Please, no magazines or encyclopedias. Receipts are available for tax purposes.
