How Much Will That New Kitchen Cost?

How much will your kitchen remodel cost? It all depends on what you want.

If you’re considering a kitchen remodel, you’re looking at a pricey remodeling project. Just how expensive can it be?

First of all, I’d like to state that no two kitchen projects are the same. It’s tricky to compare the cost of one kitchen to another. Second, identifying the average cost of a new kitchen is like asking how much a bag of groceries costs: it depends on what you put in the bag. Lastly, my experience is based on people who desire upgraded to upscale kitchen remodels, so my cost ranges reflect this.

Remodeling Magazine reports that a mid-range kitchen remodeling project in the Washington D.C. area averages around $53, 950. However, the product and scope assumptions don’t include upgraded to upscale products and don’t allow for popular modifications in our area like tile backsplash and granite countertops.

In the Washington, D.C. area, the average price range of a new kitchen where people are selecting at least some amount of upgraded or upscale products is $65,000-$90,000. This all depends on what you want to add.

Remodeling Magazine also reports that the upscale kitchen in the Washington, D.C. area averages around $107,242. This is a good starting point for the cost of a new kitchen with upscale products and modifications, however, many of the upscale kitchen remodels I see also involves making structural changes to the kitchen, which inflates the price.
