Jack Dobbyn Running for Mount Vernon District Supervisor

Democrat pledges to work on economy, education and transportation issues.

Business owner Jack Dobbyn, a Democrat, has announced he is running for the Mt. Vernon District Supervisor seat, to represent the district on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.

Dobbyn made his announcement following Saturday’s 28th Annual Mt. Vernon Town Hall Meeting where longtime Mt. Vernon District Supervisor Gerald “Gerry” Hyland announced he will not seek re-election.

Dobbyn, a law school graduate, has advocated for Mt. Vernon District in numerous roles, including as a Board of Supervisors appointee, he noted in a news release about his announcement.

Hyland “will not only be missed for his tremendous advocacy on behalf of those in need, but also for his commitment to improve the quality of life for all Mt. Vernon residents,” Dobbyn noted in the release.

“Hyland has been a leader on land-use issues, alleviating traffic congestion on Route 1 and economic development issues in our community,” Dobbyn said. “We will be losing a friend, a larger-than-life personality and someone who truly relates to all the people of Mount Vernon.”

Dobbyn said if he elected, he hopes to:

  • Stress economic revitalization from the Wilson to Occoquan bridges through environmentally sound and sustainable development;
  • Fight for students and teachers by working with the Fairfax County School Board to return full accreditation to all Mount Vernon schools; and
  • Work in tandem with federal and state officials to demand Mount Vernon’s fair share of transportation funding, including extending Metro’s Yellow Line down the Route 1 corridor to Fort Belvoir, the largest employer in Northern Virginia.

Dobbyn is a life-long resident of Mount Vernon and the founder of Dobbyn Holdings LLC, a data analytics consulting firm. As Hyland’s appointee to the Fairfax County Human Services Council, Dobbyn has fought for Mt. Vernon’s community health and human service needs.

He also serves as an appointee and co-chair alongside Lee District Supervisor Jeff McKay and Braddock District School Board Member Meghan McLaughlin, on the Board of Supervisors’ and School Board’s joint working committee, Successful Children and Youth Policy Team (SCYPT), a cross- section of county leaders which analyzes and recommends county-wide goals and priorities.

Dobbyn represents all the citizens of Fairfax County on issues pertaining to land-use policy as a co-chair of the Land Use Committee of the Fairfax County Federation of Citizens Associations.

He is the president of the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club, and served as co-chair of the Mount Vernon District Democratic Committee (MVDDC) from 2012-2013.

Dobbyn has coached youth sports since he was 16 years old for Woodlawn Little League, Lee-Mount Vernon Sports Association and the Mount Vernon Youth Athletic Association.

Dobbyn served as an altar boy at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, where he is a parishioner. Dobbyn is married to Kathryn Dobbyn, and they have three children.
