Joan & Joni tribute Saturday May 2 at St. Aidan's

Concert featuring classic folk sounds of Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell Saturday May 2nd, 7:00 pm @ St. Aidan's Episcopal Church

Focus Music and the Institute of Musical Traditions present Joan & Joni, a tribute to Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell performed by singer-songwriters Allison Shapira and Kipyn Martin, Saturday May 2nd, 7:00 pm at St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church, 8531 Riverside Rd. in Alexandria. In a musical journey from the 60’s to today, Allison and Kipyn will demonstrate the effect Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell have had on their own development as modern musicians. Both classically trained singers and up-and-coming musicians on the DC-area folk scene, Allison and Kipyn will bring to the stage many of Joan and Joni’s best-known songs, as well as some hidden gems.

Allison Shapira spent years studying classical voice at Boston University, Tanglewood, and in Italy and describes herself as a “recovering opera singer”. Recent accolades for Kipyn Martin include being named New Artist of the Year by the Washington Area Music Association and winning Gold and Silver Awards in the 2014 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. New York-based singer-songwriter Adrianna Naomi will open the show. Tickets ($15 Advance/$18 Door/$10 Student) available at www.focusmusic.org.
