The "Evolution of Retail" Summit will be fun and informative program on one of everyone's favorite activities–shopping!

The Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation is pleased to announce its “Evolution of Retail” Summit on June 2, 2015 from 8:30-10:00 A.M. at the Hampton Inn and Suites (5821 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22303). Experts will reveal how consumers shop now, what makes retail space successful, and what trends the future will hold.

Our Speakers

Bruce Leonard (Streetsense)
Bruce has over 25 years of experience designing and executing mixed-use projects throughout the United States and Europe. Bruce joined Streetsense in 2003 as a Managing Principal leading the Architecture and Urban Design studio. Currently for Streetsense, Bruce is involved in creating development strategies and solutions for several large mixed-use projects across the country totaling more than 30 million square feet. Additionally, he has served on the faculty for The University of Shopping Centers at The Wharton School of Business and has co-authored multiple publications for the Urban Land Institute.

Heather Arnold (Streetsense)
Heather is the Managing Director of Public Sector at Streetsense and specializes in retail market analysis, incentive planning, and merchandising mix strategies for downtown environments. Heather leads a multi-disciplinary team on the Vibrant Streets™ project, an initiative of Heather’s own creation,that provides neighborhoods the tools and framework necessary to create vibrant retail communities, regardless of population, ethnic composition, location, income, or budget. Heather has conducted market analyses for urban downtowns across the country, including the University of Pennsylvania and University City District in Philadelphia, 2000 Penn for George Washington University, and the Capitol Riverfront Business Improvement District in Washington, DC.

Nick Egelanian (SiteWorks)
Nick A. Egelanian is the President and Founder of SiteWorks Retail Real Estate, a retail, mixed-use, and shopping center consulting firm. He authored the retail chapter of the Urban Land Institute’s Professional Real Estate Development book, 3rd Edition, published in 2012, within which he pioneered the segmentation of retail into distinct “Commodity” and “Specialty” classes to better explain retail shopping patterns in the 21st Century and what he terms the “Post-Department Store Era”. Nick is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Maryland Colvin School of Real Estate and has contributed numerous articles and editorials in publications including the Urban Land Institute’s Urban Land magazine and Madison Marquette’s PLACES magazine.
