Little Hunting Creek Litter Cleanup Continues This Weekend April 16
After Senator Surovell's great start in the last weekend's snow, there's still trash for everyone in Fairfax's trashiest stream ...
and the weather should be better. Volunteers are needed Saturday, April 16, at the following sites:
- Gum Springs, 9 a.m. to noon: Clean up in woods along the creek. Directions: From southbound Route 1, make a U-turn at Mount Vernon Hwy/Buckman Rd. Turn right on Napper Rd and right onto Shaw Park Court. Park in the cul-de-sac. Contact: Bryan Birch, bbirch@eangus.org.
- · Colonel John R. Byers Park, 9 a.m. to noon: Pick up trash in the park. Directions: The park is on Collingwood Rd, just east of the intersection with Candlewood Drive. Park along the street or on side streets. Contact: Julene Joy, julenejoy91@gmail.com.
- · 8611 Stockton Parkway, 9 a.m. to noon: Collect trash out on the marsh and along the shoreline. Directions: From eastbound Collingwood Rd, turn R at Riverside Drive, R onto Londonderry, L onto Stockton Parkway to 8611. Contact: Pat Paterson, patpaterson@hotmail.com.
- · 8707 Stockton Parkway, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Collect trash from canoes and kayaks. Volunteers must supply their own watercraft, paddles, and pfds. Directions: same. Contact: Paul Siegel, paul@folhc.org.
Trash bags and gloves will be provided. Volunteers are advised to wear old clothes, long pants, and sturdy footwear, and to be prepared to get muddy. Students can receive service credit if they bring their forms.
