Local Mom Combines Artistry and Spirituality

A Mount Vernon woman combines her love of fashion, faith and family to run a successful jewelry design business from home.

Beth Bottcher made a conscious choice to stay home with her children after they were born.

“Your children are only young once and that time flies,” Bottcher said. "And I don’t want to miss that.”

But coming off 20 years of working in the fashion industry, Bottcher needed a creative outlet beyond stay-at-home motherhood.  She always liked to make things, and had created jewelry once upon a time.

“I had some old materials and a basic beginner’s knowledge of how to put things together,” Bottcher said.

And that was the jumping off point for Buckingham Style.  Bottcher launched her business in 2005 and hasn’t looked back.  She makes fashion pieces, but her emphasis is on the meaningful and sentimental.  She creates prayer jewelry like family rosaries and contemplation beads, often incorporating birthstones or initials to personalize each piece.

“I’m glad to help people find a moment for quiet and prayer,” Bottcher said.

Bottcher creates keepsake jewelry and really works to make each piece something families will always treasure. Her prices start at $13 for simple earrings, up to $80 for elaborate necklaces. She also donates some of her proceeds to St. Mary’s and St. Louis schools.

She said she’s loved every minute of watching her two children, now seven and nine grow, but has also thoroughly enjoyed building a business; a business that’s personal and brings something memorable to other families.

“This is a little bit of me in a family setting,” Bottcher said.
