Major Lane Closures on I-95/395 This Weekend

Closures needed for opening new 95 Express Lanes roadway improvements; drivers should expect delays.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) announces that all HOV lanes on I-95/395 will be closed starting the evening of Friday, Dec. 12 until the evening of Sunday, Dec. 14, as crews prepare to open the new 95 Express Lanes roadway improvements. Additionally, there will be lane closures on the regular lanes of I-95 North and South, including mobile closures that will move throughout the entire 29-mile corridor, which extends from near Garrisonville Road in Stafford County to Edsall Road in Fairfax County.

Lane closures also will occur on nearby local roads, in the vicinity of I-95, including: Franconia Road and Old Keene Mill Road, Franconia-Springfield Parkway, Fairfax County Parkway, Backlick Road, Route 1, and Prince William Parkway.

Closures are needed to complete critical work including unveiling approximately 80 overhead signs, roadway striping and removal of barrels. Drivers should expect major delays and are advised to choose alternate travel routes this weekend.

Drivers also are urged to remain alert and exercise caution when driving in and around the Express Lanes corridor in the coming days as the new lanes, traffic patterns and access points will open to traffic on Sunday, December 14. Standard HOV rules will be in effect during rush hour until the Express Lanes transition from non-tolled lanes to tolled lanes onDecember 29.
