CRYS MATTHEWS
North Carolina native and Herndon, VA resident Crys Matthews will headline the evening. Matthews just released her third full-length album called Come What May in 2014. A departure both musically and lyrically from her earlier works, this album bridges the gap between contemporary folk and Americana with simple, honest storytelling set to great music that helps you feel every word. From the title track (a love song, sparked by a furlough) to “You Remind Me” (three love stories rolled up into a history lesson), Come What May is a beautiful and heartfelt commentary on the belief that the personal is political and the political is personal.
In 2012, Crys Matthews released her sophomore album, A Lesson Learned, as well as an EP called The Izzle Ballads. In the September issue of Curve magazine, Rachel Shatto wrote: “A Lesson Learned sounds like how a glass of iced tea tastes: familiar, comfortable and refreshing...Fans of Tracy Chapman and Ani DiFranco will find plenty to love with this album, as Matthews shares their gifts of telling simultaneously intimate and relatable stories, all while continuing to refine her own unique brand of R&B folk.”

ANDREA NARDELLO
Acclaimed singer-songwriter Andrea Nardello was sidelined by writer’s block for two years before a simple love song she wrote for her girlfriend heralded a new era of emboldened self-identity and reinvigorated creativity. This surge of positivity and assuredness is reflected in the songs on her stately seven-song EP Echo. “There is so much change captured in this EP,” the Philly-based singer-songwriter says with palpable excitement. “I’ve found my true voice as a singer-songwriter - there is an old school soulfulness there - and there is just more honesty all around. I’m embracing everything about myself, from my personal life to my creative drives.”
Andrea has garnered favorable comparisons to Melissa Etheridge and Shawn Colvin for her gift for melding pop songwriting smarts with a confessional and literate songwriting style which often explores relationships, romance, and family life. Her refined accessibility draws from folk, rock, soul, and even the swagger of hip-hop. She’s built a respectable indie artist profile through DIY ethics and tireless touring.

KIPYN MARTIN
Kipyn Martin is an emerging Americana singer/songwriter whose roots sink into the banks of the Shenandoah River. Her voice is gathering a reputation in the region, hailed by listeners as “an instrument of unrefined purity” (Tony S.- Leicester Bangs) and “the most pure voice I’ve ever heard” (Karin Fuller- The Charleston Gazette). Now a resident of Columbia, MD, she currently plays festival stages in Virginia and Maryland and delights audiences at vineyards, coffeehouses, and house concerts throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
In February 2013 Kipyn celebrated the release of her debut album, Undercover Muse. Offering an authentic representation of Kipyn’s live performances, Undercover Muse is a strictly acoustic project. “Martin’s voice is just captivating, and engulfs the listener in warm, complex tones,” acclaims Tony S. of Leicester Bangs. More recently Kipyn performed several showcases at the 2013 Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) Conference in New York.
Placing in the NewSong Academy Songwriting Competition inspired Kipyn to pursue a Master of Music degree which she attained from Shenandoah Conservatory in 2012. Most recently her song “Nightbird” earned a gold medal, as well as the Director’s Choice Award, in the 2013 Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contest. She also received international distinction in the 2013 UK Song Contest when “I Believe in You” from Undercover Muse earned a semi-finalist rating. An honesty and vitality of voice make this woman a performing artist not to be missed.
