Officer Assaulted in Mount Vernon

A Fairfax County police officer was struck with a bottle while on patrol.

A Fairfax County police officer was assaulted while patrolling Mount Vernon last night.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. The officer was driving in his cruiser on Old Mill Road near Mill Town Court when someone threw a bottle at the cruiser. The officer had his window open and the bottle struck him in the head, said Officer Bud Walker, spokesman for the Fairfax County Police Department.

The officer was treated at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital and released.
