OOFO and more

I recently overheard two people talking.  Once I realized what they were talking about, I didn't want to miss the rest of the conversation.  So, I kept very still and watched them out of the corner of my eye.

Why do people put MBA after their names? Do we really care? Does it make a difference? I have an MBA and I'd feel pretty silly putting it after my name.
John Doe
Some people are hung up on it!
Jane Doe
I think I'll just start putting anything after my name to make it interesting
J. Doe, 5.2
J. Doe, brown eyes
John Doe
If you don't use it, do they think you don't have a degree?
Jane Doe
J. Doe, TGIF. It's not that you can't be proud of your accomplishments but if you are not in “that business”, does it really matter?
J. Doe, Training Specialist, MBA
John Doe
So, seriously, do people think you don't have a degree if you don't list it?
Jane Doe
Maybe
J. Doe, Training Manager, MBA
J. Doe, Director of Client Education, MBA
John Doe
It seems that every doc or email I’ve seen recently people are signing them with their titles, degrees, certicates, etc.
Jane Doe
Yea, it's all about status whether you know anything or not. I have 30 years in and around education but no degree in education. It’s all in the details – or lack there of. Let's compare.
J. Doe, Human Capital Specialist, Masters in Geography and Business - not happening.
J. Doe, HCS, MA, MBA
Much better - you try.
John Doe
John Doe, Training Specialist, Masters in Education
Jane Doe
Which of us would you hire for a training job based upon our “handles”?
John Doe
It sounds stupid. I would look at experience, skills, accomplishments, and gut instinct.
Jane Doe
True. Some do it because it is a “first-impression” and others are just peacocks.
John Doe
Ego?
Jane Doe
For some. Why do we address people with PhDs as doctors when they don't have a medical degree?
John Doe
If it meant more $ I'd do it!
Jane Doe
If anything, a PhD and being in a teaching position should get you the Professor title.
John Doe
Yes! That is why my wife doesn’t push it.
Jane Doe
It can mean more money.
John Doe
But she feels the same way you do. Having degrees listed after your name doesn't mean squat. What comes out when you open your mouth is the key.
Jane Doe
J. Doe, HCS, MBA, PA
John Doe
SNOB.  No translation just snob.  Will keep them guessing.
Jane Doe
J. Doe, HCS, BA, MA, MBA, OOFO, PA, MBS....this is getting fun
John Doe
Translate.
Jane Doe
OOFO = One of Four Offspring
PA = Passive Aggressive
MBS - Masters in Bull S*
Do you think I can get all this on my business card?
