Joe founded Blue Ridge Lawn and Garden Services in 1984. He currently has 14 employees. Services include everything from landscaping design, mowing, trimming and leaf removal to weeding, planting, seeding, mulching and much more.
Joe was born in 1957, and grew up in the Belle Haven community of Alexandria. He attended Belle View Elementary, Groveton High School (now West Potomac High School), as well as Edison High School.

Joe and his wife have three children, ages 18 months, 20 and 26.
How did you become interested in your line of work?

Blue Ridge actually started from very humble beginnings. I married young, and we soon had a baby. I started the business literally by knocking on doors, going around with a mower in the back of my car. The business basically evolved from there. Eventually, I purchased my first truck, went from one employee to three crews, and the rest is history.
How do you stand out from the competition?
At Blue Ridge, we pride ourselves on providing good, quality services. I always put the customer first. We try to separate ourselves from the competition by striving to offer the best possible customer service when compared to any other lawn care service on the market.
What’s an interesting aspect of your job?
All of the different people that I meet each and every day. Our customers come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. I really enjoy meeting new people, and hearing their different stories.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I’m happy to be in a profession where I can serve people and make a positive difference in their lives.
Where is your favorite place to go in the Alexandria area?
I just really enjoy being outdoors and hanging out at local parks.
What are your hobbies?
My family.
Do you have a favorite area restaurant?
Uno’s Chicago Grille in Kingstowne.
Favorite TV show.
I like watching anything on HGTV, as well as all of the news stations.
If you weren’t in this business, what would you be doing?
I think I would be in some type of service ministry, doing something to help people.
