Restaurant Specials for Mother's Day

The way to a mom's heart is through her stomach. Each year, many families express their gratitude to mom by taking her out for brunch or dinner. 

Fortunately, you don't need to travel far to find a great restaurant serving Mother's Day meals. Many local restaurants have a variety of great offers to help you celebrate right here in Mount Vernon.

Pema’s Northern Italian, a hot spot for brunch on Richmond Highway, offers a varied brunch menu from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mother's Day. Choose from over 60 dishes, including nine hot entrees, homemade waffles, an assortment of homemade cakes, pies and tortes, and soft drinks, coffee and tea for $21.95; kids eat for half price.

“Anything goes,” said Cesar Caballero, manager at Pema’s. “Everything is homemade over here.”

And if anything goes, consider taking a departure from the traditional and savoring an ethnic meal this Mother’s Day.

Cosmopolitan Grill, a family-owned and operated restaurant, offers traditional Russian and Eastern European food in a cozy atmosphere.

This Sunday, Cosmopolitan Grill is offering a roasted lamb with baby potatoes dinner for $18.90 and will give away flowers to all mothers. Other favorites include: Wiener Schnitzel, a traditional Austrian dish consisting of flattened, breaded and pan-fried veal ($15.90); Bosnian burger, seasoned with the owner’s secret herbs and spices ($8.95); and a variety of desserts prepared by owner Amela Svalina.

Thai Herbs on Richmond Highway is offering half off of the price of the entire meal for mothers and will also give away flowers.

According to Santos Barasona, manager at Thai Herbs, although mothers steer clear from spicy food, popular choices include seafood, curry and noodles. Some favorites to try: Shrimp cooked with clear noodles, shitake mushrooms and mixed vegetables ($14.95); traditional panang curry ($8.95); and Thai flounder ($15.95).

For a more traditional experience, the Mount Vernon Inn is offering a special Mother’s Day buffet that includes beef pot roast, stuffed pork loin, Hawaiian chicken, red snapper and an assortment of side dishes, salads and desserts for $30.11 for adults and $15.99 for kids. Prices include tax, gratuity and non-alcoholic beverages.
