Selected By His Peers, Student Gives Mount Vernon a Voice
Mount Vernon's student representative to the Fairfax County School Board will attend West Point next year.

Coleman, a senior at , spoke to the Washington Post this week about his goals and accomplishments.
Students from either Thomas Jefferson School of Science and Technology and Langley High School have held the post for the last five terms. Coleman breaks this tradition of the two schools trading this post. Candidates for the student representative position are selected by their peers. Coleman was elected Mount Vernon's student representative in February.

“It’s kind of like the electoral college of Fairfax County students,” said Coleman in the article.
Coleman served as junior class president last year, and he is a member of the National Honor Society and cross-country team. He will attend West Point next year. Coleman will serve in the Army, following his mother's example. Martha Coleman served in the Army Reserve.

“E.J. has always been an extraordinary child,” she said in the article. “He has accomplished, I think, more at his young age then a lot of adults have in a lifetime because he believes in himself, he stays focused and is extremely confident.”
