SOHO Orientation: "Men"tors needed for unique mentoring program for fifth-grade boys

SOHO - Space of His Own has successfully wrapped up its first year and we are eager to find a new class of mentors for our next group of fifth-grade boys. We will be holding an orientation on Tuesday, June 17 at 5:30pm fo volunteers to find out more about the format of our program, expectations for mentors, and how to apply to be a mentor. The orientation will be held at the Alexandria Seaport Foundation's warehouse at 2 Duke Street, Alexandria.

Space of His Own will meet each Wednesday throughout the 2014-2015 school year from the hours of 5:30pm-8:00pm. At SOHO, boys and their mentors have the opportunity to build a bond over dinner, during team-building activities, and through carpentry and arts-based projects. SOHO pairs start off the year building their own toolbox, followed by a shelf and chest. They then participate in clay making, and much more. At the end of the year, mentors renovate the bedrooms or spaces of each of the boys using all of the projects that they've created together throughout the year. In this way, each boy truly has a unique space of his own.

Please consider joining us to learn more or spread the word to men who you think would make great mentors. To RSVP or for more information, e-mail recruitment@spaceofhisown.org
