conductor
featuring Anita Johnson, soprano
and Matthew Harding, trumpet

Saturday, May 17 at 8pm
Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall

To Inspire will be produced in collaboration with the upcoming Degas/Cassatt Exhibition at the National Gallery of Art, running from May 11 to October 5, 2014. The Gallery is exceptionally rich in holdings by both artists, with one of the finest collections of works by Cassatt in existence, totaling 119, and the third largest collection of works by Degas in the world, totaling 158.

From Maestro Kim Allen Kluge: "I am extremely grateful for the longstanding artistic relationship between the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra and The National Gallery of Art. The music/art connections enrich the concert experience for the audience, the musicians... and for me! For this concert I have recreated a potpourri-style concert popular during Degas' lifetime, including some of Degas' favorite symphonic compositions that scholars believe he specifically referenced in his paintings."
