The Sherwood Regional Library bookstore will hold its monthly “First Saturday” sale this week on February 1. In addition, the bookstore will be open as usual on Wednesday from 1 – 4 PM, and Sunday, February 2, from 1-3 PM. Sherwood Regional Library is located at 2501 Sherwood Hall Lane, Alexandria, 22306.

Please be aware that this is a busy time at the library, especially on the second floor. Beginning on February 1 and continuing through tax season, AARP volunteers will offer their annual tax filing help, utilizing several rooms as well as the second floor lobby. In addition, the re-opened tech lab has many classes scheduled and anticipates expanded community usage. PLEASE be aware of extra traffic in the bookstore area and be considerate of others; keep boxes and bags out of traffic lanes and do not block doorways.

As always our special price table contains quality books at very reasonable prices. This week at the Wednesday sale we are offering “Smokey Joe & the General” by former ambassador Edward L. Rowny; 2 separate Great Courses offerings, with guidebooks and DVDs – “Judaism,” and “Islam”; 2 graphic novels by Matt Hawkins et al, “Postal” volumes 1 and 2; and a collector’s reprint of “Mosby’s Rangers” by James J. Williamson.

For the Saturday sale, the special price table will be refreshed with a signed copy of stories from Joe Hill, “Full Throttle”; a signed copy of “Fly Fishing for Smallmouth Bass” by Harry Murray; “Type Inheritance & Relational Theory” by C.J. Date; and 2 sealed boxed 3-disc sets from the NASA archives: “Apollo 8, Leaving the Cradle” and “Apollo 11, Men on the Moon.”

The bookstore also has added many 2019 and 2020 best sellers to that bookcase; has a 28 volume set of history books by date; a large number of “The Old West” Time Life volumes, with separate index; and a cart of strange companions: one side filled with “Star TreK” paperbacks, and one side packed with guides to collectibles (think Toys; Antique Tools; Old Magazines, etc.).

Remember, our travel guides and true-life adventure stories are now in the second floor hallway for easier access; the Western novels formerly in that area now share the mystery paperback shelves. In this same hallway, the “self - help” section now has a dedicated “exercise and diet” shelf. The Quarter Corner still offers children’s and young adult selections at 25 cents each.

Our bookstore and support of the library depend on donations by members of the community. The bookstore always appreciates donations in all categories, both fiction and nonfiction. PLEASE ensure that they are in clean, resalable condition. We cannot accept magazines or encyclopedias. Receipts are available for tax purposes.

Items from the ongoing book sale in the first floor hallway and in the second floor open lobby are available for purchase whenever the library is open. Help us spread the word; please forward this message to your community and neighborhood email groups.
