I am a passionate animal lover, a Neighborhood Pet-Watcher, a serial pet adopter, and an advocate for stray, homeless, unwanted, neglected, and abused animals. I have owned probably 30 animals in the last 20 years - all rescues. I have worked with paid and volunteer organizations to promote humane education, volunteering with pets, and animal adoptions.
As a society, we have become more aware of the significance and benefit of having and interacting with animals. They are living, breathing creatures who share our planet, our communities, and our backyards. They are essential to our survival not only as sources of amusement or food, but also emotionally. Studies consistently show the ability of animals to reach children with disabilities, the elderly, and the severely ill in positive and healing ways. I am happy to see that more property owners are renting to people with pets, there are more activities geared toward pets and their owners, and more people are adjusting their food purchases to include less meat or more humane meat sources.
However, there is still work to do in increasing awareness of pet well-being and good health. I welcome this forum as a wonderful opportunity to continue that mission, and I encourage you, the reader, to share your ideas, efforts, and hopes on behalf of animals in our community and everywhere.
Happy Tails!
