Wet, Windy Storm To Hit During Holiday Travel

A giant storm system is now gathering and forecasters said Sunday that it could wallop an area from the midwest to the Eastern Seaboard with heavy rains and strong winds just in time for holiday travel.

In our region, thunderstorms are likely throughout Wednesday, with winds picking up to 15 mph. The forecast for Christmas Day will be generally sunny, but winds reaching up to 20 mph.

Our area may avoid the worst of the storm, but travel impacts will likely be felt everywhere if flight delays and cancellations mount at some of the nation’s busiest airports.

While the storm is not expected to bring heavy snow as winter storm Cato did for Thanksgiving, flooding on the ground and delays in air travel are expected, according to Weather.com, which called the potential for the storm “very serious.”
