Your Photos: Snowfall Hits Northern Virginia, DC Metro Area
Snowfall that was heavier than predicted in many areas surprised many across the area, including local schools.

The National Weather Service predicted 1”-2” of snow for Tuesday morning, but many areas across Northern Virginia and DC received more than that. Many parents were surprised that schools decided to conduct business as usual.
Public schools in Fairfax County, Arlington County and City of Falls Church all opened on time, although there were reports of delays due to problems on the roads. City of Alexandria schools were expected to open two hours late, although there were reports of road problems there as well.
Other activities affected: After-school activities canceled, trash pickup canceled in some areas, some roadways closed and Postal Service stating they may have problems delivering mail Tuesday.
