Atlantic View Post Acute Introduces In-house Hemodialysis in Newport News, Va.

New Capability Supports Renal Care Specialty Program

Atlantic View Post Acute in Newport News celebrated the opening of a new in-house Dialysis Unit, expanding its specialty care capabilities and becoming the first skilled nursing facility in the city with this onsite offering. Atlantic View is part of the Virginia Health Services (VHS) portfolio, supported by Marquis Health Consulting Services.

Atlantic View’s six-chair Dialysis Unit manages up to 18 patients daily and complements the facility’s RenalX program, which serves those with chronic kidney disease and related diagnoses. It operates in partnership with DaVita Kidney Care, one of the nation’s leading providers of dialysis services. Davita’s Dr. Merfake Semret, medical director, is overseeing the offering at Atlantic View.

At the opening, leadership of Atlantic View, VHS, Marquis and DaVita were joined by care team members, healthcare colleagues and industry advocates, including Marissa Lima, director of development at the National Kidney Foundation. Festivities included a ribbon cutting, tours of the center and refreshments.

“The Atlantic View, VHS and Marquis teams were delighted to celebrate the opening of this progressive new Dialysis Unit with DaVita and VIP guests,” said Marquis’ Megan Shilling, regional vice president of market development, Virginia. “This offering is another example of Atlantic View’s progressive skilled nursing care and services, aimed directly at meeting healthcare demand in Newport News and beyond.” 

According to Shilling, Atlantic View will continue to develop specialized programming and capabilities that serve the community. “Stay tuned!” she added.

Located at 540 Aberthaw Ave., Atlantic View (formerly James River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center) provides post-hospital care, short-term rehab and long-term residential care.
