ALX Community Finishes Expansion To Waterfront Location

The co-working space announced its expansion has been completed at a waterfront office building.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — ALX Community, a membership-based co-working space, announced its expansion to the waterfront has been completed. Its second location is at 201 North Union Street, Alexandria.

The new ALX Community on the waterfront hosts over 100 small businesses and over 250 members, ranging from entrepreneurs to non-profit organizations. The 25,000-square-foot location has two levels with office space and a flexible community space. Members can choose from dedicated desk space, flex seating and private offices. Event and meeting space, as well as a 5,000-square-foot conference center for 12 to 80 people are available. Seven large offices are located in a private wing, geared toward lawyers, therapists and other professions requiring more privacy.

The community space can be repurposed for private event space or simply a place for people to relax. The space features a Sweetgreen Outpost, outdoor patio, waterfront views and more. The space features rotating works of artists from The Art League. It also hosts the educational TALX Speakers Series and monthly community giving projects. One of the projects included making 12,000 sandwiches for the area’s hungry homeless and children. ALX Community has held over 200 public, private and community events.

The original ALX Community location opened at Founders Hall (106 North Lee Street) in April 2018. Late last year, member company Compass Real Estate took over the original location.

"It was almost two years ago that we opened our first location, Founders Hall, with a dream we could offer more than just a workspace to small businesses, freelancers, associations and non-profits," said Kelly Grant, chief operating officer for ALX Community. "We envisioned a workspace that helped our members not only work and grow their business, but also network, learn, and have the opportunity to give back to the community they love."
