Gelato Shop Hit By Car In Alexandria Partially Reopens

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A family-owned business whose shop closed due to a crash into the storefront is reopening in Old Town Alexandria.

Casa Rosada Artisan Gelato at 111 S. Payne St. was struck by a vehicle on May 31, according to Alexandria Police. The driver, a 42-year-old man, remained on the scene and was taken to the hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries. There was no word on the cause at the time of the crash.

Now the business is ready to reopen Friday on its back patio. Other repairs at the shop are continuing.

The shop is a family-owned business from Benjamin and Raquel Umansky specializing in Argentine gelato and sorbet. The crash caused the location to temporarily as they work with the city and other authorities on repairs and approval to reopen.

"Thank you for your consistent support during this time," the owners shared via Facebook.
