4 Landmark Mall Redevelopment Blocks Headed To Planning Commission
Four blocks of the Landmark Mall mixed-use redevelopment with residential and other uses will go to the Planning Commission.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — With demolition underway on the Landmark Mall site, four blocks of the mall's redevelopment will be headed to the Alexandria Planning Commission for approval Tuesday.
Plans for the redevelopment of the former Landmark Mall were announced in December 2020, and City Council approved redevelopment agreements in 2021. The first blocks up for consideration by the Planning Commission are Blocks E, G, I and K.
The development, named WestEnd, will include residential, retail, commercial, and entertainment uses with a central plaza, new roadways connecting the development, parks and public spaces, and a transit hub serving bus rapid transit, Alexandria's DASH Bus, and Metrobus.

The development will be anchored by Inova Alexandria Hospital, which will be relocated from its current Seminary Road location. The Alexandria Fire Department's Fire Station 208 would also be relocated to the site.
Demolition at the Landmark Mall site began earlier in 2022, and construction activity will start soon, Mayor Justin Wilson said in his December newsletter.

Blocks E and G are proposed to have 390 apartments with 16 committed affordable units, at least 80,400 square feet of retail and at least 119,500 square feet of medical office space.
If advanced by the Planning Commission, the proposals would go to City Council on Dec. 17 at 9:30 a.m. for a public hearing and consideration. Public testimony will be accepted by the Planning Commission and City Council.
The Planning Commission will also consider five proposed street names for the development. The proposed names are Alex Way, Healthway Place, Hecht Avenue, Tucker Street and Verve Street. Two private streets already received administrative approval for names — Westend Boulevard and Landmark Street.
The Planning Commission meets Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. in City Hall Council Chamber.
