Pay-By-Phone Parking Price To Increase For Some Old Town Blocks
The city will reduce the parking rate for its Courthouse parking garage while increasing the hourly rate for some residential blocks.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — After City Council's June approval of changes to the residential pay-by-phone parking program, some parking rates will change in Old Town Alexandria.
Starting Sept. 2, the hourly rate for parking will increase from $1.75 to $3 on select residential streets east of Washington Street. This includes four blocks of Prince Street, two blocks of Cameron Street, two and a half blocks of S. Lee Street, one block of S. Royal Street, one block of Duke Street and one block of Wolfe Street. This rate applies to vehicles without a district parking permit or guest permit.
The hourly rate of $1.75 will remain on four blocks of Wolfe Street, two blocks of S. Pitt Street, one block of Cameron Street, one block of Prince Street and one block of Duke Street. Other nearby blocks have metered parking at a $1.75-per-hour rate.

In addition, the city will decrease the parking rate at the Courthouse garage to encourage off-street parking for Old Town visitors. The parking garage at 111 S. Pitt Street will be reduced to $1 per hour or a maximum $5 weeknights after 5 p.m. and all day on weekends.

In June, City Council approved a resolution to give city staff flexibility to change pricing at city-owned parking garages, metered lots, and residential pay-by-phone blocks. The City Council approval also expanded eligibility for pay-by-phone blocks to the entire city from previous limits — east of Washington Street, south of Princess Street and north of Wolfe Street in Old Town.
Participating residential-pay-by-phone blocks have to petition with at least 50 percent of properties on the block for pay-by-phone signage. Visitors pay for parking using the ParkMobile app, purchasing from a kiosk on an adjacent block or purchasing a pre-paid scratch-off permit.
