ALEXANDRIA, VA — Meraki, a nail salon started by a Vietnamese immigrant, is reopening its expanded location Tuesday and recently celebrated with a ribbon cutting.

The 1101 Queen Street location of Salon Meraki will expand from 900 square feet to about 3,600 square feet. The expansion includes the 300 N Henry Street space previously occupied by ARC Document Solutions.

Owner Kathleen Le, who immigrated from Vietnam to the U.S. in the 1990s with her family, spent 25 years as a nail technician at high-end salons before opening her own salon. The first brick-and-mortar location of Salon Meraki opened in 2017, aiming to offer pampering to clients regardless of age, gender or background. The second location is open at 320 King Street.

“I realized how supportive the community is with small businesses and believed that Old Town is where my dreams could be realized," said Le in a statement. "With the support from Alexandrians, I can provide a safe and fun working environment for women out there who may need a supporting hand, who may need to start over. We’re a women-led business with the aim to empower other women to be high achievers and to be the best version of themselves."

Salon Meraki offers services such as manicures, pedicures, skin care treatments, lash extensions, microblading, and waxing. The expanded location allows pedicure stations to increase from six to 19, as well as 12 manicure stations. The salon's treatment room was also expanded and updated to improve the client experience. It will introduce a new micro-needling service and HydraFacial, a type of skin resurfacing treatment with cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration, and antioxidant protection.
