Here are the top stories in Roanoke today:
- A former Roanoke County EMS worker was sentenced to 36 months in federal prison for tampering with fentanyl and hydromorphone. According to court documents, 32-year-old Jeffery Leedy tampered with at least 50 vials of fentanyl and hydromorphone while working at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital and as an EMS worker for Roanoke County Emergency Medical Services. Back in May of 2019, a Roanoke City EMS member discovered a suspected tampered vial of fentanyl after he attempted to administer the vial to a patient and noticed the vial's cap was not secured. - The trial for a former Marine accused of killing his mother's boyfriend in Franklin County could go to trial in early 2022. At a hearing for Michael Brown on Sept. 20, 2021, tentative trial dates were set for the week of Feb. 28 or March 14, 2022. The trial had been scheduled for Sept. 2021, but the prosecution is still looking for an appropriate person to do a mental health evaluation on Brown, who said he plans to prove at his trial he was not sane at the time of the killing in 2019.
