🌱 Hepatitis A Death + Jefferson Surgical Clinic Cyber Attack

Here are the top two stories today in Roanoke:

  1. A Roanoke man has died after a bout with Hepatitis A. The man died on Christmas Day and his case was traced to an outbreak of hepatitis A that started at Famous Anthony's in Roanoke. This is the fourth death from that outbreak. (WDBJ7)
  2. Jefferson Surgical Clinic in Roanoke was targeted by a cybersecurity attack that has impacted more than 170,000 people. An external system was breached where hackers acquired names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and other medical information from patients. After this attack was discovered, the hospital contacted the FBI, who then launched an investigation. (WFXR)
